Social Psychology W7 P3

The most interesting part of this section of learning to me was the discussion about the source of aggression. It’s such a common thing now to blame violence on the media, when it could come from anywhere; the media is simply an easy out. Of course, this isn’t to say that the media isn’t directly responsible for acts of violence. We see that many shooters are inspired by the actions of others, and there are certainly some cases of desensitization stemming from the violence shown in video games or on tv. However, this shouldn’t be the only source of blame, as environmental factors could be the source without others knowing. Perhaps they are completely desensitized themselves, and don’t realize that they are the primary influence for the actions of others.

The main question is: How can these aggressive behaviors be unlearned? Does it have to do wit ha change of environment and exposure only, or would a person need to be actively taught, reminded, and rewired?

  1. Your first question corresponds to the question I asked you in post two. How could you look for research in that area?

    1. There are probably a ton of insights onto therapy for aggression that I could look into for a solution.
