Honestly, this Ted Talk wasn’t what I thought it was going to be when I went into it, but it still gave a healthy dose of perspective on how social media effects our overall social sphere. I had to remember that social change can’t just happen in person, because that can only reach so many people - those who are active online may be otherwise untouched by an issue, but by showing them that it’s there (in a nice environment where the issue wouldn’t be associated with a ton of discourse) may motivate them to take action regardless of their location. It’s an interesting facet of modern social psychology, and it has a ton of weight on how society functions as a whole.
My question for this subject is: What websites exist that allow for healthy discussions about important topics? Are there any that truthfully address (inter)national issues (that may also reach wide audiences)?
Great questions. Were you able to find any sites?
ReplyDeleteOn the surface level, I thought I found a few, but after a bit of browsing I found that there weren't any that had the level of moderation I was hoping for. People on the internet are mean!
